Oh and I’ve updated the version of PlatonicRobot.com that you get access to when you use that v3.0 home menu. You can finally vote in polls (as long as you have an account) and you can read and post comments in the homebrew database (there is a page for each of my homebrew projects). So click that network button in the bottom right corner of the home menu and go discuss and vote on some junk. The actual site (the version you get when you visit it with a regular web browser) has gotten a few small updates tonight too.

What is NOT included in the pack (AKA my updated to do list):

Swing Ball
Swing Ball 2
Tick Tock Car Race
Tick Tock Boat Race
Tick Tock Zombie Shooter
Tick Tock Tank Fight
Dance Clone

Multi View
The Jarred Mind 1
The Jarred Mind 2
The Jarred Mind 3
The World Drowns
Simple Script

32 included and 22 excluded adding up to a total of 55 Wii homebrew projects. I have a tendency to start random things and then quickly abandon them when I lose interest. But I’m going to try and stick to these 55 projects.

2 Wii homebrew updates

Hypno Blast has an online leaderboard (it works the same way as the one in Cherophobe and the other recently updated games), a new score/health bar and the music should sound better. The Unmapped Forest has been brought up to date with it’s PS3 counterpart (title screen, slight UI changes). Both games have the new home menu.

Wii homebrew reuploads

You’ve probably noticed that a LOT of the links around here have died. To rectify that I’ve begun uploading all of my stuff to PlatonicRobot. You can now go there to find the most recent versions of everything I’ve ever released for Wii.

Source code and updates

EDIT: A more recent upload of the source code + PSL1GHT can be found here.

Here are freshly compiled copies of everything I’ve ever released for PS3 since I began using PSL1GHT (with the exclusion of Avoidance which I’m just going to pretend I never ported). Many of them have been updated but mostly in fairly trivial ways. The player turns to face the direction they are moving in Gambol, one of the levels in Swingball 2 has been remade, Goodbye World has been largely rewritten but should look and play the same as before, The Unmapped Forest has an added title screen, etc.

Cascade Beneath v1.1
Cherophobe v1.0
Cylinder Dodge v1.0
Dont Get Crushed v1.2
Gambol v0.2
Goodbye World v1.1
Hero City v0.5
Maze Generator v1.3
Neo Tanks v0.2
Sketch Fight v0.3
Slime Roll v0.3
Swingball 2 v0.4
The Unmapped Forest v0.3
They Do Not Die 2 v0.7
We Are Nowhere v0.2
Winters End v1.0

Perhaps more significantly, I have uploaded the up to date source code for all of it. You can download the archive here or here. It’s worth noting that it is just the source code for my projects. If you want the old copy of PSL1GHT that I’ve been using to compile things then you can get that here.

I’ll be taking a short break now from PS3 homebrew. There are some Wii things I want to work on. I’ll probably/possibly/maybe be done in a couple weeks. Let me know what you would like me to give priority to once I am.

Here is a long overdue Wii port of my still in development PS3 action RPG game The Unmapped Forest. I’ve made it so that the game resets when you run out of health but aside from that there is no real difference between this and the PS3 version.

Source code and everything needed for compiling

EDIT: A more recent upload of the source code + PSL1GHT can be found here.

I don’t remember by whom but I’m reasonably certain I’ve been asked for this before and I suspect there is probably a handful of people that would find this useful. So here it is.

I’ve uploaded a compressed file that contains the (admittedly outdated) compiled copy of PSL1GHT that I’ve been using (and continue to use) for all of my recent PS3 homebrew. The archive also includes the source code for They Do Not Die 2, We Are Nowhere, The Unmapped Forest, Slime Roll, Sketch Fight, Goodbye World, Don’t Get Crushed, Cascade Beneath and Avoidance. Along with the source code is all of the related media.

You can download it here.

How to use it (well running Ubuntu 32bit):

Just add the following text at the bottom of your bashrc file.

## Setup ps3toolchain environment
export PS3DEV=/usr/local/ps3dev
export PATH=$PATH:$PS3DEV/bin
export PATH=$PATH:$PS3DEV/host/ppu/bin
export PATH=$PATH:$PS3DEV/host/spu/bin
## Setup PSL1GHT Environment
export PSL1GHT=$PS3DEV/psl1ght
export PATH=$PATH:$PSL1GHT/host/bin

Then open up the terminal and install the following libraries (some of these probably aren’t really necessary but some definitely are).

sudo apt-get install autoconf automake bison flex texinfo libncurses5-dev gcc g++ make wget libelf-dev
sudo apt-get install python2.6-dev python-dev zlib1g-dev libtool git-core libgmp3-dev libssl-dev pkg-config
sudo apt-get install libcloog-ppl-dev

Extract the contents of the above ps3dev.tgz archive to the /usr/local/ folder.

Then in the terminal just open the directory for one of the projects (such as They Do Not Die 2).

cd $PS3DEV/MyProjects/projects/TheyDoNotDie2

Finally enter this to compile it (Doing make clean first would probably also be a good idea).

make pkg

What I would like you to do:

Make something. There is an appalling lack of original games being made in the homebrew community and I implore you to take part in changing this.

Give credit when credit is due. Don’t just reskin one of the games or change a couple things and pretend that you have made something new.

EDIT: I’ve re uploaded it (the file was taken down). I’d also like to also take this moment to point out that if you go here you can get the source code for more recent builds of my PS3 stuff along with a bunch of games that aren’t even included here.

The Unmapped Forest v0.2 – PS3

You can find a screenshot here.

Here is an updated build of The Unmapped Forest. At the moment it is still using placeholder graphics.

What has changed:
I’ve fixed the problem that caused it to freeze at a black screen when running at certain resolutions.
You have health and can be hurt.
You can now kill monsters.
You gain experience for killing monsters and you can level up infinitely (there is no level cap).
When you level up your maximum health is increased and you are fully healed.
When a monster (or its corpse) and its spawn point are both out of view then the monster is given full health and returned to its spawn point to wait for you to approach.
There are now five types of monsters.
The world has been expanded upon. For anybody that wants to further edit the game world you can easily do so by modifying the file “/dev_hdd0/game/UNMAPPEDF/USRDIR/world.dat” with any text editor.
The camera is zoomed out further.
You can now use the right analog stick to move the camera around.
Movement speed has been slightly increased.
I have improved the way that sprites are layered (there is still a problem with things occasionally being incorrectly drawn in front of trees that they are standing behind but this will be fixed soon).
Improved collisions.

The Unmapped Forest v0.1 – PS3

Disclaimer: The above screenshot is actually from an unreleased PC version. But aside from the resolution the PS3 version should look identical.

I’ve started making a new homebrew PS3 game. It will be an action RPG game but it is very early in development. It currently consists of a forest that you can wander around in and some slime monsters that will follow you. You can attack but you can’t actually hurt the monsters and they can’t hurt you. There will be PC and Wii versions later.

What I would like from you:
For anybody that hasn’t noticed already the hero sprite and chests are from Neutopia II, the slime monsters are from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and the grass and tree sprites are just ugly. I’m really more interested in programming then making sprites (I loathe drawing with a mouse) but I know there are a lot of people who are really into making sprites so I’m hoping that you might be one of them.

But I’ve tried the whole collaboration thing and it has consistently turned out to be a terrible idea. I’m not very fond of getting vague offers from 50 people only to find that most of them very obviously won’t ever actually contribute anything or are horrible at what it is that they want to help with and that of the remaining few that actually appear to be both competent and motivated they mysteriously disappear off the face of the planet before finishing anything.

I’m not going to chase people down trying to get them to contribute. I would rather just make everything myself.

So let me define the rules of engagement as clearly as I fucking can. A link to the sprite sheet is available bellow. The sprites for the final game need to be of the same size and fit on the same sheet in the same places. If you find it to be insufficiently clear where the borders are that the sprites are intended to be made within then leave a comment saying so and I will edit this post and add an additional copy of the sprite sheet that has them outlined. If you are interested in making sprites for this game then begin with making the sprites for the main character. The main character can look however you want them to look (they can be anything from an ultra cliche swords and sorcery dude to a three armed green alien with purple hair and robotic legs). If you complete the walking and attacking sprites for the main character in at least three of the eight directions then email your version of the sprite sheet to me at thatotherperson@yahoo.com and I will then potentially respond.
