Hypno Blast has an online leaderboard (it works the same way as the one in Cherophobe and the other recently updated games), a new score/health bar and the music should sound better. The Unmapped Forest has been brought up to date with it’s PS3 counterpart (title screen, slight UI changes). Both games have the new home menu.
I’d like to get all of my homebrew updated and have the same home menu in all of them. In the process of doing so I’ll be getting things organized in a way that will make it easier for me to do batch updates in the future and continue supporting titles in the long term. The 15 from yesterday was a good start but there are still roughly 30 to do.
Some of them should be easy enough to update. Others don’t seem to be working anymore when I recompile them and I’ll need to spend some time figuring out why. Finally there are some (like Dance Clone and Time Frack 2D) that I want to just completely discard and remake.

In addition to the homebrew titles that I’ve already released there are a few that I’ve begun working on but haven’t ported to Wii yet. Some of these I haven’t released yet on any platform.
Pokemon (the one I released for PS3 awhile ago and haven’t yet properly named)
Cubicle Shooter City (already on PS3 but not yet Wii and I want to add a tech demo ish mode with procedurally destructible buildings)

and obviously I’d like to continue updating things beyond just getting them working with the new home menu. I especially want to make improvements to Wii Chatter.

Is there anything that you would like to see me give priority to?
Wii Chatter’s keyboard defaults to lowercase and has a caps lock button. Avoidance and Hero City 2 (the nightmare mode) both have added leaderboards that work just like Cherophobe’s does. Winter’s End is a bit more efficient (not that it makes any difference).
All of them have a new home menu. I rewrote a lot of it and added and changed a lot in the process.
The network browser thing has a built in on screen keyboard (just like the one in Wii Chatter). So now you can use it to post things on people’s user pages and in the future you will be able to send private messages and even register an account without needing to actually visit the site.
There is also a little news window next to the main home menu. So you will be able to find out if you are using an outdated version or if something cool has happened without needing to go to the network section of the home menu.
The new sprite sheet / texture it uses is half the size it was previously (which was already smaller than it was not too long ago) so that’s good for technical reasons. The buttons and things are designed in a way that allows me to put them closer together and thus fit more on screen. I’ve even got it setup so I can use different colors of text. I’m not crazy about the way it all actually looks though. I’ll probably change the color pallet later and maybe make it customizable.
Wii Chatter is a chat room program. You post text and people can read it.
The onscreen keyboard can’t yet switch between uppercase and lowercase yet so it’s going to seem like everyone is screaming for a little while. Fixing that is pretty high up on my to do list. If it really bothers anyone I can make changes on the server side to make everything lowercase well you wait for the next version. Do you think a QWERTY layout would be better? I’d like to also add support for USB keyboards.
Hopefully it will get into the homebrew browser sometime soon. It’s been over a month since the last batch of games/updates were added. I’m thinking about making a homebrew browser alternative and/or making my games self updating. It seems like there is still a reasonable (though certainly declining) number of people playing Wii homebrew but only a small minority of people visit dev sites like this or even general homebrew news sites to get the latest versions of brew.
I’m probably going to replace the home menu / dashboard UI I use in all my stuff with not blue versions of the UI elements I made for this. Because of reasons. Any objections?
Here is a pointless update to a thing that nobody cares about.
There are some slight visual changes. The onscreen text is noticeably different in a few ways. Texture space is used more efficiently. It obviously has the more recent home menu.
Here is an updated version of everyone favorite smiley faced FPS.
This version adds an online scoreboard. Your score is automatically uploaded to PlatonicRobot.com when you die and if there is an account with your Wii number then the score gets added to the board.
To be clear: Your score is only added to the scoreboard if you have a PlatonicRobot.com account that is associated with your Wii’s friend code.
The scoreboard itself isn’t really built directly into the game but you can view peoples high scores by going to the network section of the game’s home menu. This means that you can check peoples scores even when you are playing other homebrew games (assuming that they were made by me and released in the last few months).
I also fixed a simple bug that caused intangible enemies and probably other problems. I don’t know how it went unnoticed for so long. Maybe it was only introduced when I did the PS3 port…
My current high score is 380.
Here is an updated version of Wii Exhibit.
I figured out what was wrong with my net code that was keeping it from working with anything other than readable text. So now I can make games that download compressed binary data. Huzzah. The result of this is that now when Wii Exhibit receives the refreshed image from the server it gets it as a nice small PNG file. So it uses less bandwidth and should be noticeably more responsive for anyone with a slow connection.
I’ve added support for the classic controller. You could always move the cursor with it (using the right analog stick). But now you can change your line type using the directional pad (just like you can with a wiimote) and draw using the A or R button.
I’ve also updated the home menu slightly. Now you can scroll network pages using a classic controller’s left analog stick or directional pad or the analog stick on a nunchuck controller. The networking functionality still isn’t really being used for much but I’d like to eventually make it so you can see who is online and have cross homebrew chat and achievements/trophies that other people can see and all the kinds of stuff you get with PSN and Xbox Live.
This update fixes the way the background music (GET OUT OF MY ROOM [blue boat remix] by VideoJames) plays and brings things like the home/dashboard up to date with what has been in my other more recent releases.
In this small update I’ve fixed a problem with track saving, replaced the PS3 analog stick controls with Sixaxis motion controls and the Wii version of course now features the most recent home dashboard menu.
Now on PS3 you use the X button to accelerate, the circle button to go in reverse and you just tilt the controller to turn.
This updated version of Hero City 2 features the newer home menu dashboard that has been in my recent Wii releases. Nothing else should be noticeably different.
